EHR Integrations Made Easy

As a technology-driven healthcare organization, we often work collaboratively with teams to solve challenging and complex problems. Many times, especially in the healthcare space, we find that these challenges are discovered while in pursuit of important data. A topic with increasing popularity is EHR connectivity. Simply put, having access to EHR can change the way decisions are made across the healthcare ecosystem. We’ve seen the pursuit of this data manifest itself in different ways, ranging from conventional use cases such as EHR data extraction for use in analytics engines, to more unique use cases such as real-time EHR transmission for operating room resource planning. Regardless of use case, integrating with an EHR system is a challenging problem to solve.

There are a variety of moving parts that make the task seem daunting and unachievable; you’re faced with authentication, sending and querying, VPN tunnels into the EHR, ePHI security frameworks and best practices, data modeling and much more. At CloudMine, we are committed to solving this challenge. We know that gaining access to the EHR brings new meaning to words like collaboration and interoperability - words that, historically, seemed abstract as they relate to healthcare. With CloudMine’s Connected Health Cloud™, we’re helping business address the complexities surrounding EHR integration through innovation and strategic partnerships.

CloudMine’s Connected Health Cloud comes fully equipped with a robust Integrations Engine that allows developers to integrate various disparate data sources using a single technology. We support a number of popular EHR systems including Allscripts, Epic and Cerner and various smaller systems such as CPSI. As your integration provider, we also provide robust storage and microservice applications which allow you to extend your application as your use case evolves.

So how does it work?

The workflow consists of three key parts:

  • CloudMine’s Robust REST API with dedicated EHR endpoints.
  • CloudMine’s Translation Layer for data normalization
  • Redox, CloudMine’s EHR Partner for inbound and outbound EHR communication.

The process is simple. With  an EHR determined and clearance received to integrate into the instance, CloudMine will send out a questionnaire requesting pertinent information regarding the integration. With the completed questionnaire, the CloudMine and Redox team will work with you to establish data mappings and stand up the EHR connection. Data mappings are important to keep content consistent and ensure proper transmission into the target EHR System. Once this step is completed, CloudMine’s EHR-specific endpoints become accessible and you’re ready to send to and query from the integrated EHR instance.

So what can I do with this?

  • Sending data to Epic or Athena? Hit our /Send endpoint.
  • Collecting data for analytics from Cerner or Allscripts? Hit our /Query endpoint, parse the results, and store on CloudMine.
  • Looking to improve medication adherence and patient engagement? Leverage CloudMine’s out-of-the-box push notification framework for medication and appointment reminders, as well as patient follow-up.
  • Aiming to better support your providers and patients with Real-Time Clinical Decision Support? Host your tried and proven algorithm(s) on our platform to provide statistically proven recommendations for both physicians and patients.

The use cases reach far beyond the handful listed above. In fact, because advances in EHR connectivity are just now being recognized, we’ve yet to see its full capabilities. One thing we know for sure is that access to an EHR instance can greatly extend your application’s functionality and reach. As you know, CloudMine does far more than simply making integrations easier. With our HIPAA-compliant user store, you can safely parse and store protected health information returned from the EHR system. This will open up doors to things like robust analytics, decision-making algorithms, and much more.
